The Flamingos were put together by Austin Berger, who had the first and last pick of the draft. He took prominent hitter Rob Licht and Tim Marra, who started three games at the 2018 NWLA Tournament for the national champion, WILL Waves.
Berger is a right handed flame thrower, who has the power to mow down any offense put in front of him. He has been wildly successful in his NWLA Tournament and Mid Atlantic Wiffle careers to date. Berger pitched eight-plus innings in the Opening Day Tournament, as he was on the same team as Gino Joseph and they split time. In the eight-plus innings, Berger posted the second lowest ERA in the tournament (1.15) and struck out 16 opponents. He ran into his achilles heel, Chris Sarnowski, in the championship game and allowed a walk off home run. The right hander will be looking to avenge that outcome this weekend. He also hit .321 with four homers two weeks ago, one of the homers came off Nate Morris from the fast pitch rubber.
Rob Licht is one of the most successful hitters in league history. At this year's Opening Day Tournament, he batted for a .259 average, including four home runs. One of the long balls came off Chris Sarnowski in the two run variety, which accounted for the only two runs Sarnowski gave up in 28 innings. He also threw five shutout innings from the fast pitch rubber against the Flamingos on Opening Day, proving he can be a spot pitcher for teams.
Tim Marra will make his season debut this weekend. He spent a brief period of time on the Plumbers last year, where he hit .471 with five home runs over 17 at bats. Prior to that, Marra was the Cy Wiff of the medium pitch league in 2018. On the fast pitch scene, Marra was a member of the 2018 National Champion WILL Waves. He started all three pool play games and went 0-12, had one RBI, and walked twice.
This team comes in as the slight underdog to the tournament. Nonetheless, behind Berger anything can happen. Marra has experience facing fast pitching, and Licht can change games with one swing of the bat.
