2024 Week 4 Update: Splunkers Secure Top Spot; Playoff Matchups Set

The Wiff is Life League wrapped up the 2024 regular season on Monday night.


GAME OF THE WEEK

  • The Valley Boys battle the Replacements in an entertaining Game of the Week, set to air on Thursday night at 7 pm on the league's YouTube and Facebook.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

  • The Week 4 Player of the Week is ... Nate Morris of the Chefs.

  • Morris helped the Chefs secure the #2 seed in the upcoming WILL Playoffs with two complete game wins on the rubber and a .529 batting average (9-for-17) ... Morris belted six home runs in the three games, including four in the win over Canonsburg.

Points (record): 10.5 (10-2, 1 EIL) 

Streak: W4 

The Splukers took the regular season crown after going 2-0 in Week 4, beating Valley Boys (5-4) and the Roman Noodles (3-0). Week 3’s Player of the Week, James Lindow, went 5/7 in Week 4 and has the sixth-best batting average in the WILL (.571). Abel tossed a complete-game, one-hitter in the win over Noodles. The Splunkers will play the worse of the two play-in teams in the first round of the WILL Playoffs.  

 

Place: 2 

Points (record): 9 (9-3) 

Streak: W1 

The Chefs beat the Oakdale Curve (7-3) and Canonsburg (13-6) on the bookends of a 10-run loss to the third-place Bees to secure a second-place finish to the regular season. Jake Davey, Tim Marra and Nate Morris each had three hits in the Chefs win over the Curve. The Chefs will play the better-seeded of the two play-in teams in the first round of the WILL Playoffs. 

 

Place: 3 

Points (record): 8 (8-4) 

Streak: L1 

The Bees went 2-2 in Week 4, beating the Chefs and Ball Busters, two in the top-five of the standings in mercy-rule fashion, and losing to the Canonsburg Caucasians (7-6) and the Roman Noodles (11-4). The Bees posted 13 and 14 runs in their wins, surrendering three runs in each game. The Bees will play the sixth-seeded Space Cowboys in the first round of the WILL Playoffs.  

 

Place: 4 

Points (record): 8 (8-4) 

Streak: W1 

Oakdale beat the Valley Boys and the Ball Busters while losing to the Chefs in Week 4. The Curve scored six runs in each of their two wins, fueled by six total home runs, three of which came from Nick Longo. The Curve will play the fifth-seeded Ball Busters in the first round of the WILL Playoffs.  

 

Place: 5 

Points (record): 8 (8-4) 

Streak: L3 

The Ball Busters lost three straight to end their seven-game winning streak. The Ball Busters lost to Canonsburg, the Chefs and Oakdale, the latter two teams being in the top four of the standings. The Ball Busters will play No. 4 Oakdale Curve in the first round of the WILL Playoffs. 

 

Place: 6 

Points (record): 7 (7-5) 

Streak: W6 

The Space Cowboys are riding a six-game win streak into the WILL Playoffs after beating the Valley Boys and earning a forfeit win over the Lumberjax. No team in the WILL has as good of a streak as of now. The Space Cowboys will play the Bees in the first round of the WILL Playoffs.  

 

Place: 7 

Points (record): 6.5 (6-6, 1 EIL) 

Streak: L1 

The Noodles dropped an extra-inning battle against the Valley Boys (8-6), bested the Bees, 11-4, and ended the regular season with a 3-0 loss to the Splunkers. The Noodles left the yard seven times against the Bees, three of which came from Tyler Schoenfelder. The 8-6 loss in seven innings against the Valley Boys was the longest game of the regular season. The Noodles will be the seven seed in the Play-In bracket and will need to win one game to reach the 2024 WILL Playoffs.

 

Place: 9 

Points (record): 5 (5-7) 

Streak: L3 

The Lumberjax forfeited their lone game of Week 4 vs. the Space Cowboys. The Lumberjax will play Prestige World Wide in a one game play-in at 6 pm on July 8 to get into the double-elimination playoffs.

 

Place: 10 

Points (record): 4.5 (4-8, 1 EIL) 

Streak: W1 

The Caucasians beat the third-place Bees 7-6 and the fifth-place Ball Busters 12-5 in Week 4 on the bookends of a loss to the second-place Chefs. The Caucasians boasted a +1 run differential against the three top-five teams, as they snapped a four-game skid entering Week 4. Brett Carosone hit a walk-off home run in the win over the Bees, as the Caucasians hit three straight home runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the Week 4 opener. Greyden Piechnick led the offense with eight home runs in the three games.

 

Place: 11 

Points (record): 3.5 (3-8, 1 EIL - GOW) 

Streak: W1 

The Valley Boys fell to the Oakdale Curve and the Splunkers before beating the Roman Noodles in extra innings in Week 4. Ryan Bioni hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh and Brendan Cruz closed out the game for the Boys to beat the Noodles in the longest game of the 2024 regular season. The Valley Boys will take on the Replacements in the Game of the Week airing on Thursday.

 

Place: 12 

Points (record): 3 (3-8 - GOW) 

Streak: L4 

The Replacements fell to the Space Cowboys and will play the Valley Boys in Week 4’s Game of the Week airing on Thursday. Jonathan Quinque signed with the squad, playing in the WILL for the first time since 2018.
