Morris Walk-Off Grand Slam Conquers Ladder Quest; Earns 8 Seed In Bracket A

Ladder Quest Recap Served by Lovie's Frosty Twist


Before Bracket A could get underway last night, the Ladder Quest had to be completed to determine the eight seed. The Ladder Quest was a single elimination, play-in style, bracket with seeds 9 and 10 facing off first, then the winner playing the 8 seed with the Bracket A 8 seed on the line. The eighth seeded, Banana Slugs conquered the Ladder Quest via a Nate Morris walk-off grand slam against High Heat. In game one, Bernie Riley hit a grand slam of his own to help High Heat defeat the ninth seeded, LFG Slimeball.

Riley Grand Slam Advances High Heat in Ladder Quest

“Bernie Riley blasted a home run over the left field fence in the fourth inning of the Ladder Quest opening game to put High Heat up 5-2. Riley then came into the game to pitch, as LFG Slimeball threatened, in the bottom of the fourth and got a big strikeout to end the inning, then secured the victory with a 3 batter fifth inning. Maxx Melnyk was the starting pitcher for High Heat and got credited with the win, he went three and a half innings and scattered 10 hits by LFG to surrender just 3 runs and keep his team right in it. High Heat scored their first run in the top of the first on a Melnyk bases loaded single. LFG tied the game on an Alex Miles double in the bottom of the second, and took a 2-1 lead later that inning on a Mike Sullivan sac fly. Miles threw the complete game for LFG and made just one mistake to Riley in the fourth that ultimately ended the Slimeball's season.”

Morris Walk-Off Secures Slugs' Spot In Bracket Round

“With the season on the line, down to their final out. losing by one run, Nate Morris came to the plate for the Slugs and hit a walk-off grand slam to conquer the Ladder Quest and secure the eight seed in the double elimination bracket round. Morris homered earlier in the game, as well, to put the Slugs up 2-0 after one inning of play. Bernie Riley drove in Maxx Melnyk with a double to the right field wall to narrow the margin to 2-1 Slugs. The score remained 2-1 until the fifth inning, that's when Melnyk smacked a two run homer over the left field fence to put High Heat up 3-2 in the last inning of play. Morris hit his walk-off the next half inning after three singles and a fly out to start the inning for the Slugs. Morris was also the winning pitcher, while Melnyk got the L for High Heat, both threw complete games.”


Up Next:

The Banana Slugs advanced to be the eight seed in Bracket A and were matched up against the top seeded Splunkers in the opening round.
