Boneyard Wins 2021 Championship With Sweep Of Noodles

Boneyard Wiffle secured the 2021 WILL title with a 4-2 win over the Roman Noodles to finish the two game sweep in the Championship Series. Cole Lanni had another solid performance on the rubber to pick up the win. He allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked one. The Roman Noodles got their leadoff runner on base in four of the five innings, but were only to cash in once. That came in the third inning via a two run home run by Nick Popielarczyk. Boneyard found the scoreboard a half inning earlier with a three run homer by Chris Sarnowski. Ty Zadrozny added a solo shot in the fourth to give Boneyard the 3-2 lead. The Roman Noodles nearly had bases loaded in the fourth, but Diffendal made a great play to get a force out at second base to end the inning. Lanni finished the job with a 1,2 fifth inning.

Playoff MVP

Cole Lanni was named the 2021 Playoff MVP. He hit .434 (10-for-23) in the playoffs and blasted four home runs. He had a walk-off homer in the first round matchup versus the Lumberkings and a go ahead homer in the winners bracket game versus the Flamingos. He pitched all 28 innings for BYW in the playoffs and went 5-0. Over the 28 innings, Lanni struck out 21 and walked just one batter.

Notes

Every player in the game participated in their first WILL championship of their respective careers. Boneyard was in just their first year playing, after gaining some experience in the 2020 tournament year and 2020 FWILL. The Roman Noodles have had their core three players together since their debut in the 2016 FWILL.
