Seven teams were in action on Saturday to makeup their postponed games from Opening Day. All Runs Are Bombs paced the day with three dominating wins. The Abyss got in the win column with a 2-0 day, Valley Bend and Banana Slugs went 2-1, while High Heat and Boneyard went 1-2, and LFG Slimeball was winless in five attempts.
Recaps and Box Scores of Each Game:
Game 1: Banana Slugs (12) vs. LFG Slimeball (5)
The LFG Slimeballs were short a man for the early part of their games on Saturday. Vinnie Ninehouser and Reed Bursic were the two holding it down for the Slimeballs. The Slugs filled the scoresheet with 19 hits, two of which were longballs by Davey. Bursic and Ninehouser each hit home runs in the game, but the Slugs offense was too much this game.
Game 2: The Abyss (7) vs. High Heat (5)
Cam Kennedy had two crucial home runs to help lead The Abyss to their first victory of the season. All five guys in the lineup for The Abyss recorded a hit. Both of Kennedy's bombs came in the third inning, but Bernie Riley answered in the bottom half with a three run homer to cut the deficit down to two. Jake Kennedy kept High Heat in check the rest of the way, he finished the game with three strikeouts from the rubber.
Game 3: The Abyss (4) vs. Boneyard Wiffle (3)
Cam Kennedy blasted a three run home run in the fourth inning to put The Abyss ahead over Boneyard Wiffle. Toby Kennedy was able to shut them down in the ensuing innings and secure the victory. Toby tossed the complete game, allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits, two walks, and struck out one. Cam finished the game 2-for-3, as did teammate Brock McCormack. Matt Lockwich put Boneyard ahead in the second inning with a one out double that scored three.
Game 4: LFG Slimeball (1) vs. High Heat (7)
Maxx Melnyk homered to lead off the bottom of the first and then again in the third to help propel High Heat to a 7-1 victory over LFG Slimeball. Melnyk was the winning pitcher, as well. He went all five innings, struck out five and did not walk a single Slimeball. Bursic was 5-for-8 at the plate in the loss.
Game 5: Banana Slugs (1) vs. High Heat (0)
Nate Morris started on the rubber and went four plus innings for the Slugs. He chilled the High Heat bats with three strikeouts and only allowed two hits, both singles, in his outing. Tim Marra relieved Morris in the fifth inning and induced a game ending double play to pick up his first save of the season. Tim was the lone source of offense in the entire game, as hit a home run to lead off the bottom of the third for the Slugs. Maxx Melnyk was the arm for High Heat and other than the one hiccup to Marra, he shut down the Slugs who put up 12 runs earlier in the day.
Game 6: All Runs Are Bombs (13) vs. LFG Slimeball (1)
All Runs Are Bombs had three home runs in the first, which accounted for a six run inning, en route to a dominating win over LFG Slimeball. Rob Licht pitched the complete game and allowed one run in his winning efforts. Vinnie Ninehouser and Reed Bursic split the ball and each gave up their fair share of runs. Bursic homered in the first for Slimeballs lone run of the game. Licht went 6-for-6, finishing the game a home run shy of the cycle. Piechnick, Brett Carosone, and Adam Carosone all homered.
Game 7: Banana Slugs (2) vs. Boneyard Wiffle (3)
With one out in the bottom of the fifth, the Slugs were up 2-0. Matt Lockwich singled and forced the Slugs to turn to their closer, former Cy Wiff award winner, Tim Marra. Zach Lockwich welcomed Marra with a single down the left field line, and then Cole Lanni belted a home run over the right field fence in the next at bat to give Boneyard the 3-2 victory. The Slugs pushed a run across in the second and third to gain the early advantage.
Game 8: Boneyard Wiffle (0) vs. All Runs Are Bombs (9)
Brett Carosone did not allow a hit in the All Runs Are Bomb's win over Boneyard Wiffle. One baserunner reached, Eric Diffendal, on an error in the fourth inning. All 10 outs were made in the field. Another big first inning set the tone of the game for ARAB's. Five runs came across in their first time up, thanks in large part to a grand slam off the bat of Greyden Piechnick. Licht added a grand slam himself in the fourth inning to make it 9-0.
Game 9: Valley Bend Blue Jays (1) vs. All Runs Are Bombs (14)
All Runs Are Bombs had their second six run first inning of the day versus Valley Bend, and they did not stop there. Rob Licht hit both of his home runs in the second inning, and the wheels fell off the wagon for Valley Bend. Greyden Piechnick was 4-for-4 with two homers, and Zach Faigley was also perfect 4-for-4 in the victory. Austin Simmons came around to score the lone run of the game for the Blue Jays.
Game 10: LFG Slimeball (0) vs. Valley Bend Blue Jays (1)
Brett Smith hit a leadoff home run in the second inning for Valley Bend, and that would turn out to be all the Blue Jays needed to take down LFG Slimeball. Smith and Vinnie Ninehouser were counterparts on the rubber and they were phenomenal. Other than the one pitch Smith hit over the wall, Ninehouser shut down the Blue Jays. Smith only allowed two Slimeball hits, and struck out four in his complete game win.
Game 11: Valley Bend Blue Jays (1) vs. LFG Slimeball (0)
A run was walked in with the bases loaded in the top of the first gave Valley Bend the lead that they would go on to win by, 1-0, over the LFG Slimeballs in part two of Saturday's twinbill. Smith and Ninehouser dueled once more. The Blue Jays offense was able to get more hits in game two, but Ninehouser scattered them and worked out of jams. Smith was brilliant once more with another complete game shutout. Ball led the Blue Jays offense with three hits. All three players recorded multi-hit games for Valley Bend.
