The fourth seeded Roman Noodles went 3-0 last night to claim Bracket A and advance to the 2021 Championship Series. The Noodles downed (5) The Abyss in their opening game 6-5 via a Matt Cottrill third inning three run homer. They carried their momentum into the next game, as they dominated the eighth seeded Banana Slugs 10-0 behind a Nick Popielarczyk perfect game on the rubber. Then they had a rematch with the Banana Slugs in the finals, which they won 2-0 to clinch their championship spot.

Slugs Stun Top Seeded Splunkers in Bracket A Opener
“The Ladder Quest conquerors, Banana Slugs, rode their momentum into the first round of Bracket A with a 5-1 victory over the number one seeded Splunkers. Jake Davey got the scoring started in the top of the second with a solo home run, but Austin Abel said not so fast and tied things up in the bottom half with a solo shot of his own. After a scoreless third, Davey and Nate Morris went back-to-back for a three spot in the top of the fourth inning, which made the score 4-1 Slugs. Morris kept the Splunkers bats quiet the rest of the way, as he allowed just one hit after surrendering the second inning home run to Abel. Davey added a homer in the fifth, his third of the game, to make the final score 5-1. Austin Abel got tabbed with the loss on the rubber for the Splunkers, as he went four-plus innings, allowed all five runs on five hits, walked one and struck one out.”

Cottrill Three Run Homer Propels Noodles To First Round Win
“Nick Popielarczyk got the Roman Noodles offense going in the first inning with a three run home run, but the Noodles would need more than that to take down The Abyss. They would get it off the bat of Matt Cottrill. He belted a three run homer in the bottom of the third to make it 6-5 Roman Noodles. The Abyss got four runs in the top of the second on home runs by Cam and Jake Kennedy, and added one in the third, to make it 5-3, before Cottrill's bomb. Jake Kennedy and Nick Popielarczyk dueled on the rubber and had similar stat lines, but Pop came out with the W and Kennedy got dealt the L.”

Splunkers Stay Alive In Dominating Fashion; Eliminate The Abyss
“The top seeded Splunkers had some business to take care of after dropping their first game of the evening, and that they did. Home runs by Austin Abel and Zach Williams in the first inning put the Splunkers up 2-0 early, and they were not done. Cree Gardner blasted a grand slam in the second and the Splunkers struck for six runs to make it 10-0. Abel was back to his dominance on the rubber with a complete game one-hitter and five strikeouts. The Abyss used three different arms to try to slow down the Splunkers offense, Jake and Toby Kennedy were unsuccessful, but Cam Kennedy came in and threw a scoreless 2 and a half innings to finish the game. Toby Kennedy had the lone hit for The Abyss.”

Popielarczyk Perfectos Slugs To Reach Bracket A Finals
“Nick Popielarczyk faced 10 Slugs and sat them down each time for a perfect game. He struck out one and had solid defense behind him to accomplish the perfect game feat. The game was not broken open until the third inning, when the Noodles plated seven runs. All three Noodles had home runs in the game.”

Slugs Upset Splunkers For Second Time; Eliminate Top Seed
“The eighth seeded Banana Slugs bounced right back from being perfect gamed by the Noodles minutes before and bested the top seeded Splunkers, 3-1, in an elimination game to reach the Bracket A finals. After a scoreless first inning, the Slugs belted back-to-back one out home runs, the first by Morris, followed by Davey, to get ahead 2-0 early. The Splunkers cashed in one run in the second off a Cree Garner leadoff triple followed by an Aaron Lindow double, narrowing the score to 2-1. Nate Morris settled in after the Splunkers first run and did not allow another one. He struck out seven Splunkers, including the game winning out in the bottom of the fifth with bases loaded. The Slugs added their third run on three singles in the fourth. Cree Garner threw the complete game for the Splunkers.”

Roman Noodles Secure Spot In 2021 Championship Series
“Nick Popielarcyzk dominated the Slugs yet again to clinch the Roman Noodles spot in the 2021 Championship Series. Pop allowed two hits in the first then zero after that. He added two strikeouts in the complete game win from the rubber. The Roman Noodles pushed the winning two runs across in the bottom of the third via a bases loaded single by Matt Cottrill. Nate Morris threw well for the Slugs, but had no run support and got tabbed with the L.”

The Roman Noodles move on to the 2021 Championship Series on Monday, July 19 at Cecil Park. They will be opposed by Bracket B’s victor, Boneyard Wiffle. First pitch is set for 7:30 pm.
