Boneyard Wiffle Playoff Preview

Preview Served by Lovie's Frosty Twist

Record: 7-5 (#2 seed)

How They Got Here:

In an opposite story of the top seeded, Splunkers, Boneyard Wiffle started out the season slow and is now heating up. Boneyard had their backs against the wall in Week one makeup games, after a 1-2 day at Week 2 field tournaments, as they dropped their first two games and were losing their third late in the game. With a negative point on the line however, Cole Lanni hit a walk off home run to send the men in grey home with a point. That started the roll for them, a 2-1 week 4 won them field two’s bracket, and a 3-0 week 3 makeup day put them in contention for the one seed. Two losses to the Splunkers in Week 2 however had them be the two seed.

Top Hitter:

Cole Lanni leads the team with eight home runs and four doubles. The left hander is batting .510 on the year and slugging over the thousand mark, at 1.082. He also has two walk off home runs this year so far, look out for Lanni late in games.

Top Pitcher:

Lanni has been the workhorse on the mound for Boneyard, he has thrown in 9 games, eight of which he went the distance, going 5-4. The left hander posted a 2.75 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over his 40 innings of work. His ERA is fifth best in the league, and strikeout total of 28 is third in the league.

How They Matchup:

Boneyard is in Bracket B and will play the seventh seeded Lumberkings in the opening round. Third seeded All Runs Are Bombs and sixth seeded Flamingos join them in Bracket B.

did not face Lumberkings

0-1 vs. All Runs Are Bombs

Brett Carosone No-Hits Boneyard; ARAB Offense Stays Hot

“Brett Carosone did not allow a hit in the All Runs Are Bomb's win over Boneyard Wiffle. One baserunner reached, Eric Diffendal, on an error in the fourth inning. All 10 outs were made in the field. Another big first inning set the tone of the game for ARAB's. Five runs came across in their first time up, thanks in large part to a grand slam off the bat of Greyden Piechnick. Licht added a grand slam himself in the fourth inning to make it 9-0.”

3-1 vs. Flamingos

Sarno Sixth Inning Home Run Lifts BYW Over Flamingos

“Boneyard Wiffle put up six runs in the top of the third inning to take a 6-2 lead over the Flamingos at the midway point of the game. Austin Berger hit his second home run of the game in the bottom half to make it 6-5. Steve Keelon tied things up in the fourth with a solo shot. The game stood at a standstill, 6-6, at the end of regulation. In the top of the sixth, Chris Sarnowski belted a two run homer and then closed the door in the bottom half to secure the BYW win. Sarnowski and Eric Diffendal each had two homers in the game. Steve Keelon was the losing arm, while Sarnowski pitched the complete game win for Boneyard.”

Flamingos Force If Necessary Game on Field 2

“Austin Berger shut down the Boneyard offense to help the Flamingos force an if necessary game on Field 2's bracket. Berger threw all five innings, allowed two runs on three hits and struck out three. Both runs and two of the hits came in the bottom of the fifth, after the Flamingos built an 8 run lead throughout the game. The eight runs came on three Jordan Castelli home runs, as well as solo shots by Gino Joseph and Steve Keelon. Chris Sarnowski threw all five for Boneyard and got the loss.”

Boneyard Wins Week 4's Field 2 Bracket

“Chris Sarnowski and Eric Diffendal put on an offensive clinic to propel Boneyard to Field 2 bracket champions in Week 4. The offense rolled all game long, with four runs in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the fifth. They each had two home runs in the game. The Flamingos battled right there with them, but could not get any late inning magic. Steve Keelon had two homers for the Flamingos. Sarnowski threw the complete game victory from the rubber, while Austin Berger opposed him and got tabbed with the loss.”

Boneyard Downs Flamingos For Perfect Week 3

“Boneyard set the tone early with a leadoff home run by Cole Lanni. Ty Zadrozny added a home run later in the top of the first to cap off a five run first for Boneyard. Zadrozny struck again in the second to put Boneyard Wiffle up 6-0. Eric Diffendal joined in on the home run action with a two run shot in the third, which extended the lead to eight runs for Boneyard. The Flamingos veteran offense would not go down without a fight, as they plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a Steve Keelon home run, to narrow the deficit to two. Zadrozny belted home run number three to lead off the fifth. Lanni shut down the Flamingos comeback attempt in the fifth to secure his W on the rubber. Keelon got the L for the Flamingos.”
