The WILL Waves finished up play at the NWLA National Tournament on Sunday. They went 2-1 on the day and ended the tournament in 5th place. Game by game recaps are below.
DE Game 3 vs. WWW: The Waves bats came out firing in the 8 am matchup with Wild and Wonderful Wiffle. WILL scored 8 in the bottom of the first. Jake Davey scored the first two of the game on a double down the right field line. Mike Graziani later in the inning hit a grand slam over the center field fence to continue the rally. Graziani added 2 doubles throughout the game and finished with 6 RBI. Jordan Castelli belted one over the left field fence for a home run and Rob Licht tripled to round out the extra base hits for WILL. Austin Berger and Jake Davey split the shutout from the rubber 2 innings a piece.
DE Game 4 vs. HRL: The definition of a pitchers duel in this matchup. WILL scored in the bottom of the 6th to walk it off and advance. Mike Graziani was the Waves batter who drove in the winning run with his single up the middle. Austin Berger threw a complete game shutout with 15 of the 18 outs being strike outs. Jake Davey had the lone other hit for the Waves. WILL used walks and the single from Graziani to manufacture the walk off win.
DE Game 5 vs. RPWL: WILL ran out of gas and fell to Ridley Park 13-0 and was eliminated from the NWLA Tournament. Rob Licht went 2-3 in the game, one of the hits coming off flame thrower Tommy Loftus, who hit 103 mph on the radar gun this weekend.
WILL's record is now at 11-8-1 all time at the NWLA National Tournament. The Waves will be back in Morenci next season, the next tournament is yet to be determined. Stay up to date on all the Waves action on our Twitter @wiffislife.
