Waves Saturday at the NWLA Tournament Recap Served by Lovie’s Frosty Twist

The WILL Waves went 3-1 on Saturday in the NWLA National Tournament. They went 2-0 with a +20 run differential in pool play to get the number 1 seed in the bracket. Then, WILL went 1-1 in the bracket play with a win 23-9 in the opening round and a 5-2 loss in the second round. Game by game recaps are below.

Pool Play Game 1 vs. BCW: The game got off to a slow start, nonetheless the Waves took down Brew City 12-0 in a 5 inning mercy rule game. Rob Licht had 3 hits to lead the Waves. Licht and Davey each had 4 RBI in the game. Mike Graziani threw 4 innings of 1 hit ball to get the win from the rubber. Josh Clopp finished the game with 1 inning of scoreless relief.

Pool Play Game 2 vs. WWW: The Waves scored 7 runs in the 2nd and didn't look back en route to a 10-2 win over Wild and Wonderful Wiffle. Austin Berger did the job pitching, as he went all 6 innings and allowed 2 hits. Jake Davey hit 2 home runs, one of which a grand slam in the 7 run 2nd, and had 6 RBI. Nate Morris had the lone other extra base hit with a triple.

DE Game 1: The top seeded WILL scored 5 in the 1st, 9 in the 2nd, and 9 in the 3rd on thier way to a mercy rule, 23-8 win over Hillsdale WIffleball League in the opening bracket play game. Licht homered twice, while Morris, Davey and Castelli all homered once. Mike Graziani started from the rubber and went 2 innings to get the win from the rubber. Steve Keelon entered to throw 1 inning, allowing 4 runs. Rob Licht closed it out for the last inning.

DE Game 2: The Waves faced off with AWAA and lost a tough battle, 5-2. Jordan Castelli pitched all 6 innings and gave up 5 runs, only 3 earned. Castelli and Jake Davey each had a double, Davey had the lone RBI.

WILL is sent to the loser's bracket and will take on Wild and Wonderful Wiffle in an 8 am matchup. It's win or go home time.
