The National Wiffle League Association released its final team rankings and the National Team of the Year Wiffy Award for the 2018 season this Monday (January 14). The WILL’s 2018 champion squad, Booze on First, was named the National Team of the Year, and took the number one spot in the team rankings. This is the highest any Wiff is Life League team has been ranked ever, the previous high was in the preseason rankings earlier this year when Booze on First was 7th. In addition, the top 10 in each region has been released, with Booze leading the east. The Beavers joined in on the action with a solid finishing at 16th in the nation and 6th in the east region.
Booze on First finished the regular season at 21-1 and went 6-1 in the playoffs to secure their 3rd straight league championship. Booze was led by Jordan Castelli, who was the Silver Slugger award winner this year with a league leading 53 home runs. Jacob Davey was the go to arm for the team, going 17-1 from the rubber. Matt Mish and Josh Palma rounded out the roster. All 4 players had 20 or more homeruns, holding 4 of the top 5 spots in the statistic.
The Beavers ended the 2018 season with an identical 21-1 record, but fell in the championship for the second straight year. Adam Carosone was the man in charge of the men in blue and their roster was highlighted by Rob Licht, the 2018 WILL MVP. This is the Beavers first time in the NWLA national rankings. The previous high was honorable mention status.
The NWLA is a member organization of 43 Wiffle Ball leagues across the country. It’s rankings rank the top teams from all of its leagues nationally, with a top 25 and a 7 team honorable mention section, and regionally, with a top 10 in the east, west, and central.
