The History of a Dangerfield Champion

The Dangerfield bracket … exactly where teams do not want to be. You are eliminated from contention on Saturday night and you question everything that happened that day. Previous years saw multiple forfeits, but now you win that and you qualify for the next year. Do you even want to qualify for next year? Let’s take a look at how Dangerfield champions have bounced back the next season. The first Dangerfield bracket was for the 2013 tournament. This first edition featured just a 2 team bracket. The GBL and Mequon Wiffleball League faced off and Mequon pulled out the win. The next year Mequon returned from a winless tournament to end 2014 with a 5-3 record. For 2014, that Dangerfield champion was Washburn Wiffle League, who defeated Cincinnati Wiffle. The next year, WWL avoided the Dangerfield, like Mequon in ‘14. WWL went 2-4 in the year after their Dangerfield title. Into 2015, the MNWA Gophers took home the crown over BWACS. When 2016 rolled around, MNWA outlasted the first day of games and avoided Dangerfield, going 1-5, the title of the Dangerfield was then passed off to Griffleball League. GBL found themselves back there in 2017, but called it a weekend early. GBL went 1-4 in that 2017 tournament. Now on to us, the WILL. We took home the Dangerfield hardware in ‘17 and look to find our way out of it this weekend. In the 4 year history of defending Dangerfield champs, only 1 has made their way back to the Dangerfield the next year. All time the champs have a record of 9 wins and 16 losses in the following year. We will do our best to boost these stats up and make it past day 1 this year. History says we shouldn’t return to the bracket, but also doesn’t have us going over .500, as only 1 team has ever done that. The weekend should be a fun one … LET’S GO WAVES
