The Wiff is Life League will be LIVE streaming a handful of games to kick off the 2018 season! All games for Opening Day will be streamed via Periscope / Twitter. Be sure to follow @wiffislife on Twitter to watch and stay updated all day. Finals of every series will be posted on Instagram as well, the WILL is also @wiffislife on that platform too. Maestros v. Step Dads (1:00 pm) One of the 3 non divisional games this Opening Day will be available to watch on any device. The Maestros are led by Tim Marra, who is an experienced winning captain. Making it to the championship in 2016 and semifinals in 2017. He puts together a talented squad to have a good opportunity at making a run. Look out for the Austin’s of the Maestros, Steedle is in his first ever WILL game stepping right into a high talent team and Berger is back from a year off … did he get rusty? Also, have an eye on Nate Morris, of the Step Dads, who is new to the team for the season and is facing his former captain and teammates, in the Marra twins. This should be a great game to kick off the 2018 season. Team Barstool v. Pelicans (2:20 pm *approx.*) Twelve players will be on the field combined between the teams and only 2 have previous WILL experience. This is will still be a fun one to watch. The Pelicans are rumored to be talented baseball players, but it’ll be time to see if they can do the same in the plastic variety. Cal Wilson, captain of Team Barstool, will most likely be on the rubber for the team, for he is a reigning 3rd Team All-NWLA Pitcher. As Wilson tries to craft up the Pelicans, Tom James will be on to watch for on the offensive side for Barstool. He returns after a year off, James formerly was on “Team”. The live streamed game will be the third of this 3 game divisional showcase. Beavers v. Balls Deep (4:20 pm *approx.*) The defending runner ups are back on the field for 2018. The series will have 2 completed games when we pick it up on Periscope, for the third of 3. The D3 matchup could be close, could be not close. Balls Deep is a new teamed and depending on who shows up to play we could have a quality series on our hands. Be on the lookout for who pitches for the Beavers, they picked up Keelon in the offseason, but who will they lean to with 2 high quality arms on the roster. Balls includes a power hitting right hander, in Cam Weston, to try and offset the power pitching of the Beavs. Last thing to watch for the game is if Licht is able to live up to his impeccable year last year offensively for the Beavers. Booze on First v. Wagner World (6:15 pm) The back to back defending champions of the Wiff is Life League are at it again, with arguably the most talented roster of their 3 year existence, on paper. Let’s watch for how Matt Mish can do in the black and white. Booze also includes the reigning hitter and pitcher of the year, in Jordan Castelli and Jacob Davey. Wagner World is looking to sneak up on the Boozers, with Cree Gardner and Alex Gregory leading the charge, both young and athletic players with experience in the league. They could look to use the big park and turf rolls at Pleasant Valley to pick up some extra bases and put pressure on the reigning champs. Game 1 of the 3 game division series will be the live streamed one. Canonsburg LumberKings v. Splunkers (8:10 pm *approx*) GAME OF THE WEEK Two teams battling it out for one of the five games that will be shown live this opening day, this one ultimately being the Game if the Week, are Canonsburg LumberKings and the Splunkers. Crazy how things work out as last year’s original Splunkers are returning to face the team that took over the Splunkers mid-season and made a decent playoff run. LumberKings surely have more years and experience on the Splunkers and way more power. Splunkers, though, will have a chance depending on the ump with the combo of Miller and Abel on the mound who both like to throw the ball battling the pitch speed limit, they will most likely learn that this league is “medium” speed in a hurry and struggle to get the ball past the giants on the LumberKings. The Splunkers look to come out firing trying to prove their worth and plant there spot in the WILL.
